The High Desert Fiddlers’ Country Music Jamboree will be held ***this weekend*** June 13-15, 2019 ***this weekend*** at the Harney County Fairgrounds in Burns, Oregon. Burns is located in southeastern Oregon on Highway 20, about 130 miles east of Bend and 130 miles west of Ontario. Click here for a map. This year’s Jamboree schedule can be viewed here . (pdf)
There’s old-time fiddle music, some Celtic, country and bluegrass as well, with two shows daily (afternoon and evening). All you have to do is sign up to play. Some of the shows have “canned bands” and Saturday morning is usually for gospel tunes. Instruments must be acoustic and music is without percussion (drums).
Admission is free, but we do “pass the hat” to cover expenses.
There are also some dandy workshops coming up, including: banjo, fundamentals of guitar, fiddle for novices and youth, playing the harmonica in C, using music applications on an iPad, learning dance steps, a “unique instruments” workshop (you can bring your own, too!) For the workshop schedule, see the jamboree schedule by clicking here; for a description of the workshops click here.
One of the events of the Jamboree that many find enjoyable is the jamming. Folks come out to jam with others in between shows and late into the night.
If you happen to arrive to Burns earlier, we also play at local businesses and restaurants each evening before the Jamboree starts (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). Message us or check in at the Fairgrounds and we can let you know where we’re jamming.
We have breakfast, lunch, dinner and concessions available at the Fairgrounds on the days of the Jamboree. Tent and RV camping is available at the Fairgrounds for a fee ($10 dry camping, $20 for electrical and water – RV dump is available on site). Camping is available until Sunday. Lodging, other RV facilities and restaurants are available nearby in both Burns and Hines. See “Harney County Information” for details.
It’ll be lots of fun for all… we’ll see you there!
